FROM PUERTO RICO
TO THE AIRWAVES.
A Puerto Rican story built through resilience, family, community and an unwavering commitment to music.
Peter John Lopez, professionally known as DJ P Killa, has built a multifaceted career at the intersection of music, radio, production and culture.
Born in Yauco, Puerto Rico and raised for part of his childhood in Peñuelas, his connection to music began early through the records his brother David, known as Lagrima, brought into his world. Hip-hop, R&B and Puerto Rico’s underground Latin movement — the sound that would evolve into reggaetón — became the foundation of his musical identity.
At 15, the passing of his beloved grandmother Eladia Castro, who had raised him, marked a defining turning point. A period of instability followed, eventually bringing him to Reading, Pennsylvania. Through those experiences, music became both an outlet and a direction. He began writing from real life, composing and producing records, studying audio engineering and developing the technical skills that would ultimately become his profession.
DJ P Killa established himself in Reading’s nightlife through recurring club appearances before expanding his reach through collaborations and professional relationships with major Latin urban artists, including Hector El Father, Don Omar, Alexis & Fido and others. His work later moved into broadcasting, with experience connected to XM Radio, Sirius Radio and iHeartRadio, and on-air roles with Rumba 92.3 FM in Reading and Rumba 100.5 FM in Lancaster.
Community remains central to his work. That commitment led to the creation of La Asociación De Los DJs, a platform and record pool designed to give DJs and producers access to exclusive music, resources and professional support.
Behind every professional milestone is the foundation that matters most to him: family. As a father of five — four daughters and a son — DJ P Killa draws his greatest motivation from the life he has built with his wife, Ruthy Lopez. That responsibility continues to shape his work ethic, ambition and commitment to creating a lasting legacy.
